Buying the Best Blade Brings Brilliant Results
Circular Saws are incredibly effective and efficient tools, they are used by nearly all tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts to save time whilst making accurate cuts. But as important as it is to have a good quality circular saw, it is more important to choose the correct blade to put in it.
Choosing the correct saw blade will give you the best results, saving you time on the job but most importantly you’ll save money in the long run because the blade will last longer.
There are a lot of variables to consider when buying your saw blade and it can become a bit of a minefield. This is where the Walker family can help, with experience in the saw manufacturing industry in Sheffield being passed down over four generations we are always happy to give advice on which blade will be best suited to your specific needs.
Unfortunately it just isn’t as simple as one blade to suit every job, our flow chart below shows just a small number of things to consider which can change the type of blade that you need.
From the outside a Circular Saw Blade may seem quite simple. Essentially they are just pieces of steel which spin round incredibly fast to cut through a piece of material. But when you look a bit closer, they are extremely complex. There are a lot of parts to a saw blade including the saw tips, braze alloy, gullet size and shape, shoulder size and shape, expansion slots and the saw plate or steel saw body.
Generally the blade you need changes depending on the answers to three questions:
- What material are you cutting?
- What machine you are using?
- What finish are you trying to achieve?
If you know the answer to these three questions you’re well on your way to selecting the right blade and getting the best results. If you’re unsure on the answers to any or all of these questions then please get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help.
Walker Tools offer the UK’s largest range of TCT Circular Saw Blades and stock blades of all sizes and specifications to suit every machine and application so we will definitely have the right blade for you. All of our blades are clearly marked as to what machine they’re for, what material they will cut and what type of cut they will give, making it simple for you to make an informed decision.

A very informative blog. Its nice to know what various terms mean and how they effect the performance of the blade. Until now I only looked at diameter and number of teeth for the chosen material, but I can now make a more informed choice. A safer choice too.
Kind Regards
